SERVICES
We develop export capacity through practical training and relationship building. Our trade facilitation programme is designed to provide opportunities for Western Cape-based exporters to meet potential customers, conclude business deals and also to grow their businesses by expanding their markets. This helps to develop the provincial economy and create more jobs.
A strategic, well-researched export plan, combined with dedication and focused determination will help any business to break down those barriers and successfully achieve their export aspirations. Our highly experienced export country managers are the first point of call for exporters who have a fully developed export marketing plan and clear their export goals.
EXPORTER INITIATIVES
We co-ordinate meetings and site visits for procurement teams from foreign companies who wish to do business with local producers and manufacturers. These meetings are typically focused on a particular sector or specific product.
- Inward buying initiatives: Inward buying initiatives are an effective way of getting to know what international buyers are looking for. For Western Cape-based businesses, this knowledge not only helps to open doors, but they also remove the complexity of exporting without a detailed understanding of the market in question. Drawing on our extensive network with foreign embassies around the world, we introduce local producers to potential buyers. We facilitate information sessions between foreign organisations and local suppliers to help develop a greater mutual understanding of market size, segmentation, regulatory environment, demographics, distribution, trends and competitive activity, among others. The sessions also give local providers the opportunity to present their offerings directly to potential buyers.
- Outward selling initiatives" In collaboration with the dti and our colleagues in embassies around the world, Wesgro’s international trade managers lead outward missions with local companies to attend and participate in overseas exhibitions and trade shows. These events enable Western Cape exporters to access foreign buyers, government procurers and sector-related supply chains. They are also ideal for exporters to test market appetite for their products or services, attract new customers or joint venture partners, appoint agents or distributors, and even secure sales.
Small- and medium-sized companies may be eligible to access grant funding to attend the events, supported by Wesgro and the dti.
SUPPORTING EXPORTERS
Exporting to foreign markets can be a challenge without having detailed knowledge of who the main market players are, what bureaucracy is involved and how to structure finances. In addition, it can be an expensive and time-consuming process to find the right people to do business with in foreign markets. Wesgro plays a critical role in supporting exporters by creating links to the right partners and providing information that will help them to successfully implement their export marketing plan.
- VAT Export Incentive Scheme: Applicable to exporters registered as VAT vendors in South Africa, this scheme allows exporters to zero-rate VAT on exports regarded as a direct export. Exporters must be registered with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to export commercial goods from South Africa.
- Dti EMIA and SSAS incentive: This incentive helps to cover travel costs of exporter wanting to explore new markets
- Dti Capital Projects Feasibility Programme: A cost-sharing programme that contributes to the cost of feasibility studies likely to lead to projects outside South Africa that will increase local exports and stimulate the market for South African capital goods and services. All South African enterprises are eligible, as long as the study is undertaken by local companies.
- Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) financing: The IDC makes financing available at reduced rates for selected expansion schemes that are expected to result in increased foreign exchange earnings. Credit financing for exporters of capital goods is also available through the IDC or private sector merchant banks at reduced rates.
- The Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC): The ECIC provides export credit and foreign investment insurance cover on behalf of the government. The aim is to facilitate South African export trade by underwriting export credit loans and investments outside the country, to enable South African contractors to win capital goods and services' contracts in other countries.
- Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation(CGIC): Offers exporters insurance covering domestic or international debtors, which means exporters are protected against non-payment.
